Thursday 16th May 2013
ALS Sales and Marketing Director Nigel Richards and Business Development Manager Karen Crompton were just two of the 607 volunteers that came together on Tuesday, May 14th to smash the record for the number of people making sandwiches simultaneously in one place.
The event was organised by the British Sandwich Association and held in a specially erected marquee at Media City in Salford. With support from key manufacturers within the BSA such as Food Partners, 2 Sisters and Greencore, as well as many volunteers from the BBC, the Association easily beat the previous official record set by Subway in the USA of 254 sandwiches.
The new BSA record was done to comply with the Guinness rules and will now go for formal verification.
The BSA's Director Jim Winship explained: "We were keen that the association should do something a little bit different to mark this year's British Sandwich Week and to follow up our 250th anniversary celebrations in 2012. This world record gave us a great opportunity to showcase everything that's great about the sandwich industry."
