We are delighted to announce that ALS' Keith Watkins has been crowned ‘Best Trainer of the Year’ at the prestigious Society of Food Hygiene and Technology (SOFHT) awards.
The prestigious awards, which are presented as part of SOFHT's annual luncheon took place at The Brewery in London in front of many of the UK's major supermarket groups, food manufacturers and suppliers.
The SOFHT Awards recognise and celebrate excellence within the food industry and its associated industries. The Awards will be judged by a panel of experienced food industry professionals from the Society’s membership.
Keith commented winning the award; "I have been delivering food microbiology training for over 20 years and I have worked on both sides of the industry, food manufacture and contract testing laboratories. I believe that this unique combination gives me the perspective to teach food microbiology to both food manufacturing and laboratory staff at all levels. I feel that teaching with a relaxed style, and humour, helps to deliver the message about what can be a very complicated area of science.
I endeavour to train food microbiology in a practical way which gives people the information on how to perform their roles rather than teach theoretical food microbiology. The advent of online training has been new but I have developed the courses to make the online experience almost as good as face to face training. It is great to receive an award in recognition of this".
