According to a 2017 study 84% of consumers stated that they check where their food comes from and 52% said they would not buy a product again if it were mislabelled.*

Given these statistics it is of importance to be able to verify that when claims of origin are made they are accurate. For a number of products this is also enshrined in law through the Protected Designation of Origin and Protected Geographical Indication schemes.
