ALS Laboratories - a leader in meat and fish speciation testing

Tuesday 16th October 2018

As you may have seen, a recent BBC report highlighted that more than a fifth of meat sample tests in 2017 found DNA from animals not listed on the labelling. Out of 665 results from England, Wales and Northern Ireland collected by the Food Standards Agency, 145 were partly or wholly made up of unspecified meat.

In another BBC report, it seems that there is also evidence of "fish fraud" as well as "meat fraud" with cheaper fish being passed off or mislabelled as a more expensive type to boost profit margins.
