ALS Microbiology Training Day a big hit with customers

Friday 16th May 2014

ALS hosted a Microbiology Training Day for customers earlier this week at its site in Mirfield, West Yorkshire.

This was the second event of its kind so far this year - the first being held at its Sittingbourne laboratory in Kent - with the aim being to provide technical personnel from a variety of food manufacturers with a greater understanding of microbiology and laboratory procedures.

The full day session included a series of seminars from a variety of experts including Dr Roderick Gibson, ALS's Group Technical Manager for Microbiology; Alexia Masters, Group Quality Manager and Company Microbiologist Andy Muirhead. Topics covered included 'Uncertainty of measurement', 'Microbiology analysis and the relationship with HACCP' and 'The use of trending to determine testing protocols'.

Customers were also given a tour of the Mirfield laboratory and provided with an opportunity to gain a practical understanding of some of the testing procedures from Site General Manager Hannah McAlister and Laboratory Manager Angela Taylor.

The training day proved a big hit with the attendees and is therefore likely to be repeated later in the year at Mirfield and at other ALS sites around the country.
