ALS sponsors Cambridgeshire 'Young People of the Year' Award

Monday 11th March 2013

ALS is among a number of organisations backing a regional campaign to ‘Reveal, Recognise & Reward’ young unsung heroes and contributing to a prize pot of £2,000 that young winners will share with the community.

The 2013 Cambridgeshire Young People of the Year contest - or 'YOPEY's - is launching this month for it's 8th year and is open to young people aged between 10 and 25, who live, work or study in Cambridgeshire. Anyone can nominate young positive role models and entries will close on September 30th. St Neots, Cambridgeshire’s fastest-growing town, will be hosting the awards in its prestigious Priory Centre in the autumn.

The contest has been praised by national leaders including the Prime Minister, David Cameron who commented “It struck me that their common trait was their own determination; their desire to succeed; and their resolve to make a difference.”

YOPEY founder Tony Gearing said: "There are many young people in Cambridgeshire doing wonderful things for others. It's just that they live in the shadow of a well-publicised anti-social minority. We are very grateful to ALS coming aboard as a sponsor to help us campaign."

ALS Sales & Marketing Director Nigel Richards comments, "As an organisation with 2 major sites in the county and an employer of many young people, we are very proud to sponsor 'YOPEY' as it recognises and rewards the remarkable efforts of young people in Cambridgeshire. We are excited to be working with YOPEY this year to celebrate the value of young people to their communities and to recognise their achievements.”
