ALS employee wins 'Laboratory Technician Apprentice of the Year'

Tuesday 26th April 2016

We are delighted to announce that Sema Ozbek has been awarded 'Laboratory Technician Apprentice of the Year'. Sema, who works at ALS's dedicated pharmaceutical testing laboratory in Ely, was presented with the award last month at a ceremony at the College of West Anglia.

The award is particularly significant given that only 16 awards were presented across all apprenticeship categories open to 1,200 applicants. On the back of this achievement Sema has been nominated for the National Apprentice of the Year Award whilst ALS has been nominated for the National Apprenticeship Awards Employer of the Year.

Sema started her laboratory technician apprenticeship at Ely in June 2014 and from the outset showed exceptional talent and dedication to her work. Sema's training started with basic chemistry testing and the physical testing of tablets before she progressed to become a competent user of HPLC and GC equipment.

As a result of her continued progress, and having passed the Level 2 stage of the apprenticeship process with Distinction, Sema has now been given a permanent role at Ely where she will continue to Level 3 of the Apprenticeship scheme supported by ALS.
