By identifying risks and non-conformance it increases our resilience to safety and other concerns. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy. It is precisely our ability to overcome obstacles and self-belief that brings value to the task-at-hand.
ALS' strategic plan incorporates a sensible approach to ensuring a safer future and a healthier planet, but also to safeguard our business and strengthen its resilience under a range of climate change scenarios. An example of this at our Chatteris Food Laboratory where they purchased and installed an ANKOM FLEX Analyte Extractor which simplifies the process of analysing fat-soluble vitamin, cholesterol and hydrolysis fat determinations by combining two procedures into one method. Along with the increased efficiency in conducting the analysis, a further benefit of this equipment is the reduction in solvent usage. The two separate methods conducted prior to installation were labour intensive and used a larger volume of hexane and petroleum ether. It is estimated that by implementing this new laboratory equipment the use of hexane and petroleum ether will be reduced by 780 litres and 480 litres per annum respectively.
To ensure we continue to achieve these values we employ a range of people; from those who are already highly qualified and experienced with formal science based qualifications and laboratory experience, through to those with no specific qualifications or experience other than an interest in furthering their career path within a laboratory environment.
